Important Update on Dayton NBC (WDTN)

Nexstar Media, the owner of WDTN NBC in Dayton has chosen profits over public interest and has rejected altafiber's fair market proposals.

Important message from
Jason Praeter: President Consumer Markets

Our team has been negotiating with Nexstar Media, the largest broadcaster in the US for the past month on a renewal for the NBC affiliate (WDTN) in Dayton. Nexstar continues to demand rates that are well above market rate (even for channels they don’t currently own), which will increase your TV bill even further. In addition, Nexstar is forcing us to carry their cable network NewsNation in order to have Dayton NBC (WDTN), which is not widely viewed and comes with an extremely high percentage rate increase over today’s rates. All of which impacts your TV bill.

altafiber will continue to negotiate for a fair rate and to keep your monthly TV bill as low as possible.

Thank you for being a loyal altafiber customer and for your understanding as we continue to fight against high prices from broadcasters & programmers.

This update will impact the following channels:

NBC Dayton (WDTN) - Channel 5

ION Mystery (WDTN.2) - Channel 270

Why is this happening?

Unfortunately, Nexstar Media is demanding much higher than market rates as the NBC affiliate in Dayton for content they deliver free over the air. In addition, Nexstar is forcing altafiber to carry their NewsNation cable channel, despite its low viewership and with its own dramatic rate increase which they are also demanding.

Please note, altafiber is always committed to doing our best to provide a wide variety of content to suit all of our customers’ needs; however, we’re also committed to managing cost increases that affect the monthly rate our customers pay for TV service.

Will I get a credit for not having NBC?

Yes, we will proactively issue a monthly credit of $10.00 to your account while we continue to negotiate with Nexstar for the local Dayton NBC channel, WDNT, while the channel is blacked out by Nexstar. This credit will appear on your July bill.  There is no need to call.

Why won't you just pay what they are asking?

As a local business, we can thrive only when we deliver the best possible value for you from all our services. With all the channels we offer our customers, imagine the impact on your monthly TV bill if we agreed to pay every network whatever price they demanded.

I pay a lot for my TV service. Can't you use that money to pay for this increase, or lower my bill?

Rising programming cost, affect ALL video providers and increase your bill every year. We absorb as much of these increases as possible but are not able to cover all of them. We strive to continue to provide value, which means in some cases we need to stand firm against broadcasters/programmers who demand exorbitant rate increases to keep pricing as low as possible.
